Biography

Quiet suburbs and tree-lined streets are the images that come to mind when picturing a place like Connecticut. Underneath this suburban pastoral lie the feelings of alienation and longing that most kids experience growing up. Feelings that lead you to pick up an instrument and express yourself. Enter Signal The Escape, a group of five friends in their late teens/early twenties who came together in the spring of 2005 to share the collective bond that being in a band brings.

Rising from the ashes of CT post-hardcore band Forgive and Forget, Signal The Escape sought to blend the screaming buildups and breakdowns of their former self with a new maturity, tempering melody with raw emotion - a sound described by lead singer Tom Kavanagh as, “Screamo with pop sensibility”. Taking their cues from bands like Silverstein, Taking Back Sunday, and Saves The Day, Signal The Escape address universal themes of love, loss, honesty and betrayal in three and a half minute musical vignettes. On October 23, 2007 Signal The Escape will makes their debut on Double Blind Music with the release of the 5 song EP, ‘These Scars Are Just The Beginning’, produced by Bryan Russell (Straylight Run, Envy On The Coast), with additional production by and mixed by Matt Squire (TREOS, Boys Like Girls).

Featuring four original songs plus a remix courtesy of Sun Of The Electric Ghost, ‘These Scars Are Just The Beginning’ offers a taste of what is to come with Signal The Escape when they release their fulllength album ‘All That You Deserve’ later in 2008. The first single “Maudlin” is a plea for trust: “You won’t be alone. If you fall, I fall too.” While “Exorcism in the ER” is about moving on with your life, knowing when it’s time to let go: “Doctor you’ve got to listen! My heart stopped beating when she said she adored him”. “Borerline Stalker” is about obsessive infatuation: “Stare so hard that you burn a hole right through my back…this is borderline stalker!”. And “Boys Lie” recounts a tale of getting even with a cheating girlfriend: “It takes two to play, but only one to initiate. Now we both play our parts”.

Since their inception, Signal The Escape has been criss-crossing the country in their van, dubbed ‘El Guapo’ (ˇThree Amigos! fans take note), touring with bands like I Am The Pilot, The Hope Fallacy, Another Found Self, Isadora, and Sparks The Rescue, sharing the bills and stages with the likes of Cartel, Boys Like Girls, The Starting Line, Circa Survive, and Envy On The Coast.

Signal The Escape is willing and ready to give all that you deserve with plans for traveling and playing live for 2008 and beyond. Gearing up to hit the streets and spread word, heading wherever the untamed world (and ‘El Guapo’) will take them, these scars truly are just the beginning for Signal The Escape.
