Biography

It's not often that bands can completely defy preconceptions and create a sound so revolutionary before your very eyes. But Fony is a quintet that have moved mountains to define a sound that is so unique and powerful that you just have to sit up and take notice.

This Surrey mob blast out a rootsy, epic groove that harks back to an era of classic, real hard rock bands steeped in emotion, soul and an ability to play live with ease. Combine this with a massive dose of cutting edge contemporary riffs and twisted groove and you'll be getting a glimpse of the Fony phenomenon.

This truly inspiring musical creation has been captured on the Redhill gang's second opus 'Circles' released through Copro Records in late 03.

Recorded at Chapel Studios in Lincoln (Funeral For A Friend, Machine Head) it was produced by Pete Brown (Sade, Soup Dragons). From the hard hitting opening 'A Satire For The World', to the semi acoustic power rocker of 'Helium', the raucous 'F**king The Sentiment' to the brooding momentous closer of 'Wishlist, End', 'Circles' is a stunning album. Seeped in gusty riffs and Olly Gibbon's heart wrenching cynical narrative, it's an album that shows that music can be adventurous, demanding and inspiring all at the same time.

'Circles' saw Fony hit the road with full UK headlining tours, as well as European jaunts with Life Of Agony and Breed 77 and then as European headliners in their own right. A full time touring schedule has ensured the continent has become a second home for Fony, with TV appearances in Spain and an appearance on a Spanish Ozzy Osbourne tribute album with Fony being the sole foreign band asked to contribute.

Prior to 'Circles', after establishing themselves in 1998, Fony spent their formative years building a fan base with relentless touring clocking up shows with the best of British bands including Lostprophets, earthtone9, One Minute Silence and a rock sound magazine sponsored tour with Funeral For A Friend. Early demos secured a deal with Casket Music and saw the release of their debut album 'Routine Irregular' to critical acclaim in the rock press.

The band went on to attain huge levels of success with the video they cut to accompany the album track 'Chore Again'. Spending over three months in Kerrang TV's top 20 it helped to launch Fony to a much wider audience. Subsequently the band achieved a number 7 slot in Kerrang's Best New Band category for 2002.

Defiantly refusing to blend into the norm and continually growing as musicians, Fony look set to continue pushing out their rock boat to uncharted territories for a long time to come.
