Here, on the first DVD release by Audioslave, you'll find the three videos from their debut album, a couple of tracks performed live on the David Letterman Show, 'Set It Off' and 'Gasoline' as well as a few snippets of behind the scenes and documentary footage that are a special treat for fans of the supergroup of sorts which is fronted by the charismatic and talented Chris Cornell.
'Cochise' is a fantastic video display that dramatically introduced the group to the public at large. The constant barrage of fireworks igniting as the band performs is a superb visual effect that makes for some sweet eye candy as the band rocks out their hit single. This video is a live performance which directly focuses on the individual band members. Director Mark Romaneck picked up some great shots of the band here that really capture the energy of the performance quite nicely.
In the moody, somber 'Like A Stone' video, fans get a very close up and personal look at the band performing this track in a very relaxed setting. Cornell looks like he is really somewhere else in this clip, while Brad WIlk looks rather bored. This is however a good representation of this band's greatest hit so far.
'Show Me How To Live' is a kind of strange, retro looking vid that features Audioslave pimping around in an old muscle car as they do some fun stuff like run cop cares off the road 'Dukes Of Hazzard' style and blow some shit up. It would be very cool to hear Tom Brokaw report that Audioslave had done this for real.
The live performances are outdoors, atop the Ed Sullivan Theatre, which is a really cool place for a performance. The band just do not have the room to move around and show off their true energy, but this footage is interesting nevertheless. The sound is of good quality and it gives you a chance to see the group in a really neat environment.
The documentary and behind the scenes footage are cool, but they could have included much more footage. Still, you get what you pay for because this DVD is cheap, cheap, cheap. Which gives you little excuse to pick this one up if you're any kind of fan of this sort of thing. So check it out, just don't plan to make a night of it
