Remember that song 'Poem?' Neither do I, or at least I wish I could say that I don't, which is what I hope Taproot were trying to accomplish with their latest effort 'Blue-Sky Research' which gives off more of that alternative hard rock edge that the general populous falls for very hard and with that Taproot will still find themselves ahead of the rest.
To my surprise, this album isn't of the really lame caliber that their previous efforts have shown to be. This album is of a harder edge than their previous efforts but in a different manner. But fear not, they are just as 'heavy' as you remember them while still keeping those clever choruses and angst, depressive inspired lyrics. But what I noticed about this release is that the band's sound has taken another approach, which is a much wider one, one that offers much more depth than previous efforts making it more than just another hard alternative singled frenzy release that merely offers an exterior of what a band has the potential to do.
Bottom line, this album is not of the typical manufactured Taproot caliber, they have made more out of their songs, and though they all follow the same formulas , these formulas are better arranged, and done very well enough to make this writer appreciate a band that he couldn't stand at one time which is a hard feat to accomplish. Fans of Taproot will find this release most pleasing and it might even take those who aren't fans off guard in a good way.
