Did Alice in Chains reform....oh wait, it's just New England's Godsmack. And while they take their name from an AIC song, totally rip off the post grunge/ angst ridden rock of the infamous Seattle quartet, and even go so far as to take a member of their band from an AIC cover band, their 12 track CD isn't half bad. Maybe it's because AIC's inactivity has spawned such copycat outfits that rock fans have settled for anything that bears even a striking resembalance. In any event, these guys do tend to rock from the opening track, "Moon Baby," thick with groove and chock full o' samples, and maintain a continuous flow of rocktitude throughout ("Immune," "Get Up, Get Out.") They've even, through their hard work and constant touring, landed a slot on the Ozzfest this summer. So, if AIC is your bag, but you're sick of waiting for Layne to get off of his, then you should be pleased as punch with Godsmack.
