  Band Name: Zeromind

In the last few years there has been somewhat of an explosion in the alternative metal genre. Bands like Saliva, Seether, Slipknot and Linkin Park have been doing pretty well for themselves these days. One might argue that Linkin Park is rapcore and Slipknot is metalcore but for the moment let's not get that specific. In general, these bands play a modern form of metal that takes great influence from many different styles and melds them together into something new. Zeromind is one of these bands and they are not afraid to admit it. 'Zeromind proudly call the hip-hop influenced sounds of the 90's their home' is a quote taken form their official web site which also mentions Limp Bizkit, Korn and Linkin Park as influences.

On the 'Ground Zero EP', their first release, they also blend rap, metal, and alternative like the above mentioned bands, however they do it in a way that is not predictable. They do not sound exactly like any one of the above mentioned bands, but they have a few elements from each. With the first track 'Medicate' you hear the dual singers, one singing and one rapping, over a heavy Korn like beat, but the album does not continue this way. The third track 'Reaching Further' , my admitted favorite, takes a different turn with a melodic beginning, a little rapping, and a powerful catchy chorus. The rapping is not over powering, as it can be on song songs of this nature, it is just a little atmosphere over this heavy Tool like anthem.

The variation in style between each song kept me listening attentively waiting to see what Zeromind would do next and I was pleasantly surprised every time. They have a strong rhythm section and catchy melodies overall, no matter what style they choose, which is what really determines a good band. Producer Sylvia Massy's touch is evident on the 'Ground Zero EP'. Massy has produced albums for many bands such as Tool and System of a Down. The recording is excellent, the mix is great, and the songs are well structured. Massy's production helped emphasized the epic heaviness and grooving bass that this band is capable of.
