It's not surprising that Fivespeed earned a spot of the 2005 Vans Warped Tour in light of this solid four song release. Melding thick song structures with smooth vocal harmonies gives the band's music a sense of weight that is impressive to behold. Although many metalheads may find the band's music to be a bit light for their tastes, those who can appreciate the more commercial end of the hard music spectrum will no doubt find the band's material to be engaging. 'Vegas' provides the most sonic thunder, with an adequately heavy riff that emphasizes the smooth vocal harmonies. You'll find an up-tempo kicker in 'The Mess' that flirts with emo, while 'Hand Or Rifle' bears a decent kick in consideration of a musical approach that is not dissimilar from that of A Perfect Circle. A demo version of 'Are We In?' sounds like anything but a demo, it's superb engineering highlighting the group's more melodic side as the band churns through a solid rhythm similar to the type of material produced by bands like The Exies. This EP is only available online or at tour stops, making it something of a collectable piece, which adds a bit of value to the release All in all, this is a good taste of what the band is capable of, making an impending full-length something to look forward to!
