Goth rock is back! Resurrecting from the ashes of dark wave, Deadsy and bands similar have given birth to today's new goth sound: Spookycore.

Reminiscent of the Cure and Joy Division, front man Elijah Blue warbles about in melancholy "I don't need to care" style. Based in LA, Deadsy and their newest effort, Phantasmagore does not disappoint, even with all the hullabaloo surrounding it's rise.

I put Phantasmagore on, and did not take it off my CD player all day. Well crafted melodies and dynamic atmospheric sounds blend seamlessly, creating the imagery presented in the lyrics. It makes one feel as if they are walking down a long, dark, wind whipped tunnel.

One of my favorites, "Carrying Over", paints part love song, part anthem for encouragement.
Also worth noting is "Book Of Black Dreams", "Health & Theory" and a neat little cover of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black", bringing some creepy back into creepy.

Anyone who has been following the rebirth of goth-rock/dark wave with currents like "She Wants Revenge" and "69 Eyes", needs to give a listen to "Phantasmagore".

My only complaint would be more tracks. 11 is cutting it cheap. And be warned, there are Roman Numerals instead of numbers representing each track. Keep this in mind, all you who thought the only "IV" was for hospitals!
