The Exies bust out hard hitting rock with a slight metal edge on 'Head For The Door.' Falling somewhere in between the styles of Nirvana and Warrior Soul, the group knows exactly what it takes to write music that will have the crowd completely energized on tracks like the relentless basher 'Splinter.' You'll find the group heading into 3 Doors Down territory on the immensely popular 'Ugly' which has been all over the radio as of late. The performances of the individual members are solid as a rock and when you combine this factor with a stellar production job from Nick Raskulinecz, you have a potent combination that's hard to beat. 'Slow Drain' slinks with a energetic bottom end thrashing while 'F.S.O.S.' embellishes the style pioneered by Kurt Cobain with an insanely infectious riff. This track's upfront guitars dominate the mix, boosted by some stiff, open hat slamming. These songs are written with harmony in mind, but that doesn't stop the band from busting out some really heavy, massive sounding riffs on 'Dear Enemy.' The bass guitar is well up in the mix, which further adds to the group's thumping tone. 'Don't Push The River' stomps all over the best that of the harder edged stuff that STP produced without a thought. The Exies might be a bit too commercial for many metal listeners, but even the most jaded metal fan can't deny that these guys can really rock when they set their mind to it. Several songs on 'Head For The Door' will surely get the radio nod, and for good reason. Packed with attitude and an intense vibe that will plaster you to the barroom wall, this album rocks like hell in an age where so many have forgotten how.
